POSITION SUMMARY
Dorothy’s Kitchen is a full-service commercial kitchen in Chinatown Salinas that prepares, cooks and serves two meals daily, every day of the year, to homeless and marginalized guests. The Weekend Team Leader functions as support for weekend groups that staff our kitchen. The Team Leader is under direction and supervision of kitchen manager or kitchen director and would be a person who loves helping others in need.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (additional duties may be assigned)
Facilitate Weekend Plan that will be outlined by manager or director in writing
Saturday Morning Breakfast as outlined and supervise volunteers
All sanitary requirements required by Monterey County Health Department
Security of resources, donations and equipment
Provide leadership and direction to outside groups and volunteers, when needed
Assist outside groups with clean up following service
Receive, secure, document and report to manager all donations
Maintain a clean and professional appearance
Communicate with kitchen manager and be able to follow directions

Service environment: Noise level is moderate. Some guests in program areas may be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Some guests may have health issues that make safety, sanitation and contagion protocols mandatory. Minimal exposure in administrative offices.
If driving during work hours: Must possess a valid California driver’s license; must maintain vehicle liability insurance; must maintain a good driving record.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma
Previous experience in food service with leadership or supervisor experience
Previous experience in working with people transitioning out of homelessness is helpful, but not necessary
Manage multiple tasks, be creative, reliable and donor-centered.
Language & Communications Skills:
Effectively presents information both orally and in written format and responds professionally to questions from staff, guests, clients, residents, consumers, service partners, donors, volunteers and the general public
Deep sense of compassion and understanding for homeless and marginalized individuals
Excellent written and verbal communication in English required. Excellent written and verbal communication in Spanish is highly preferred, since more than half our constituency is Spanish speaking.
Mature, even-tempered and team spirited, respectful of the challenges of others, and have tempered judgement of others
Comfortable and knowledgeable in consensus-based decision making and practice of non-violent communication
Acts ethically, responsibly and with utmost integrity
PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to easily climb stairs to a second story
Ability to easily bend and lift 20 lb. overhead
Ability to read and comprehend administrative documents as well as data on a computer screen
Ability to hear normal conversations and answer phones
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time
TRAVEL:
This job requires routine travel (driving) within the Salinas Valley and Monterey Peninsula areas and occasional driving and other travel to attend training and conferences.
