AmeriCorps Service Description:
AmeriCorps VIP Fellows are placed at established community nonprofit and educational organizations providing services to our community’s children and families. This position is responsible for improving the capacity of the placement site to attract and utilize high value (skilled and corporate) volunteers in order to increase services to the community.
The AmeriCorps VIP Fellow placed with the Franciscan Workers of Junipero Serra, also known as Dorothy’s Place, will be charged with maintaining, coordinating, and expanding a volunteer program that annually involves thousands of children, youth, families and college students in hands-on service to guests and recipients of our program services. This year a major goal will be involving corporate and business groups in long-term partnerships and ideally making monetary contributions. The VIP Fellow at Dorothy’s Place must be able to begin in early September 2020 and commit to 11 months of service, ending in July 2021.
- • A $16,000 living allowance divided over 11 months
- • Health Insurance (no dental or vision)
- • Food stamp eligibility
- • A $6,100 education award at end of service
- • Possibility of shared housing on CSUMB campus or at Dorothy’s Place in Salinas
Complete both 1700 hours of service AND 11 months of service.
The successful applicant will have a willingness to live very simply, have a great sense of humor, and a strong work ethic.
