During the current health emergency caused by the spread COVID-19, Dorothy’s Place continues to provide services, as usual, for our guests and clients.
Service to those in need has always been our mission and Dorothy’s Place has always been supported by the greater community, especially by those that value service above self.
There are no plans for disruption or cancelation of any of our existing services.
The Dorothy’s Place staff and volunteers are following guidance and recommendations from the Monterey County Health Department.
Staff and volunteers are modeling how to stay healthy and safe. They are working with hundreds of people who are living outside in encampments and helping them form new and safer habits – handwashing, masks, distancing, and keeping them healthy with excellent meals and sound case management.
➢ On our street, the City of Salinas has provided four porta-potty/hand washing units that are serviced daily.
➢ Stainless steel hand washing sinks have been placed along the sidewalk outside Dorothy’s Place, and hand washing is now mandatory for all those who come for a meal.
➢ Meals are provided at the door. The dining room is not being used due to physical distancing requirements.
➢ Each client has their temperature checked, and are required to wear a mask, wash their hands, and maintain physical distance, prior to entering the Drop-In Center. This requires staff to monitor and encourage clients with patience, persistence, firmness, and good humor.
Dorothy’s Place is part of a radically brave and humble tradition of service to victims of chronic homelessness. Dorothy’s Place will continue to provide service for those in need. Thank you for your support.
Everyone has a human right to dignity, health, food, and shelter.
