Antonia Jardines, our AmeriCorps member serving with Dorothy’s Place this year, is responsible for recruiting and welcoming volunteers, and for managing the Volunteer Program.
Though this has been a tough year to be a volunteer coordinator, Antonia has continued her AmeriCorps service, some days remotely, some days on site, often assisting in the Kitchen. We are fortunate to have her as a member of our team. Antonia has an Associate Degree in Social Behavioral Science from Hartnell College. And during this pandemic year, while serving in AmeriCorps, she has continued working towards an Associate Degree in Psychology. She plans to transfer to California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) this fall to continue her studies in psychology.
“Working at Dorothy’s Place has been a great experience,” says Antonia. “Being part of the exceptional team at Dorothy’s Place and what they are doing in the homeless community is rewarding. It has opened my eyes to the great need here. Interacting with those who are going through a rough time and being able to help, and in return receive a ‘thank you’ and smile is gratifying.
“Being an AmeriCorps team member is great,” she says. “Getting to know people who have the same goals in life, which is to help others, has helped me to grow as a person and to identify what is important in life. My supervisor, Laura Lee Lienk at CSUMB, has taught me that there are great people who care and whose goal is to better their community and those around them.”
With love, respect and compassion, Dorothy’s Place provides essential services, transitional support and housing assistance to people experiencing the injustice of homelessness and extreme poverty.
