	A fundraiser for Women Alive! Emergency Shelter! Women Alive! is an overnight shelter in Salinas for single women that have no other place to go for a safe night's sleep.
This special dinner event celebrates the strength and resilience of the women in our Women Alive! Emergency Shelter in a way that you have to experience to appreciate. You'll not only learn that Women Alive! serves hundreds of women with no other alternative than street life, but you'll also hear from them how they got there and how you can help. This is your opportunity to hear directly from the women that need your help to find a life of self-sufficiency.

Our special guest speaker is Roberta Goodman, social advocate and former manager of the Empress Hotel in San Francisco, a community of about 90 formerly homeless persons, each suffering with some form of disability that prevents them from embracing a self-sufficient life. We asked Roberta to join us for this event because of her ability to blend art and culture into her work with social concerns, just as we do at Women Alive!

Our two honorees have provided their love and attention to Dorothy's Place and Women Alive! in extraordinary ways.

June Backus of Salinas has organized her annual "Sock Drive" for more years than we can count - she's a one-woman dynamo that raises funds, negotiates incredible bargains with local stores and provides warm clothing to our guest just as the weather turns cold. Come and ask her why!

Carolyn Gray of Carmel is our champion of Women Alive! and in just this year alone through community organizing and resource development got our shelter guests off the mats on the floor and up onto comfortable beds, completed renovated our donations center, and is in the process of procuring resources to renovate our ladies bathroom.
