Dorothy Day (November 8, 1897 – November 29, 1980) was an American journalist turned social activist, who with Peter Maurin, founded the Catholic Worker Movement. She became known for her social justice campaigns in defense of the poor, forsaken, hungry and homeless.
The primary staff for all Franciscan Workers programs are the Companions of the Way Community. Ourintentional community is self-governing and separate from Franciscan Workers of Junipero Serra, yet lives and works in harmony with the poor and marginalized as we hope to complete our lives of service in Franciscan Worker programs. Our housing needs are met at no charge and we receive a small monthly allowance for unmet living expenses.
