Who Is Dorothy?

Dorothy Day (November 8, 1897 – November 29, 1980) was an American journalist turned social activist, who with Peter Maurin, founded the Catholic Worker Movement. She became known for her social justice campaigns in defense of the poor, forsaken, hungry and homeless.

The Beginning

Dorothy's Place Hospitality Center has been on a special trajectory since 1982.

The Franciscan Workers Community works for social justice as an expression of deeply held spiritual values that lead us to serve our fellows while living simply and mindfully in an intentional community. We are an inclusive interfaith group who support each other in practicing our diverse traditions with the common goal of manifesting our faith in our daily lives and service.
